(Even) better than skiing: winter fun off the slopes

You can't or don't like skiing? Don't use that as an excuse! Here in the forest chalet village of Valsegg, winter is truly beautiful away from the slopes. Read on to learn all our insider tips for an unforgettably beautiful time in the snow and a sparkling white adventure with your loved ones:

The hosts' tips:

Snowshoe hiking tips from your host Magdalena:

‘If you are looking for a dreamlike snowshoe tour, the route from Valsegg towards Jochtal is perfect. You start through snow-covered forests and later you reach the high pastures. There you can expect a spectacular panorama of the Dolomites. Plan about 3 to 4 hours, depending on your pace and photo breaks. The view is truly breathtaking! It's best to leave early Then you can really enjoy the silence of nature.

The tour on the Rodeneck-Lüsner-Alm is also incredibly beautiful! The 15-kilometre route is easy. It takes you over a snow-covered high plateau. From there you have a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. Take 4 to 5 hours to enjoy the whole route.’

This is where senior manager Paula loves to walk the most:

‘If you want to take it easy and relax, then the cross-country ski trail in Vals is perfect for you. It runs at an altitude of about 1,350 m. The trails are 5 to 10 km long and the route is also ideal for beginners to glide through the snowy landscape.

For a more intense experience of nature, I recommend the 15-kilometre-long cross-country ski trail on the Rodeneck-Lüsner-Alm. The route is at an altitude of 1,800 to 2,000 metres and is known for its guaranteed snow conditions. The panorama that accompanies you there is truly unforgettable!’

Sledding tips from your host Gregor

‘How about a spontaneous sledding excursion? Sure! You can do that here in Valsegg. Thanks to the slope! It is not too steep but a good 250 metres long.

If you are in the mood for a longer descent, try the Brimi Winter Run at Gitschberg. The route is 6.75 km long and offers beautiful views during the descent.

For the more adventurous among you, there is the toboggan run at Rosskopf in Sterzing. At 10 km long, this run is the longest in all of Italy. The descent takes about 20 to 30 minutes. A perfect mix of fun and adrenaline.’

Jana's insider tip for ice skating

‘The ice rink at the Restaurant Mühle is my favourite. You can take a few relaxed laps there. The ice rink is about 500 m² in size and offers plenty of space for an ‘icy time’ with your loved ones. What I particularly like: you can go straight to the restaurant when you need a break, have something to eat or drink a tea.’

Anna's favourite winter hiking routes

‘The circular route from Valsegg to Vals is a wonderful route. You walk through snow-covered forests, the route is about 6 km long and it takes about 2 hours.

The tour to the Fane Alm is also unforgettably beautiful. In winter, the historic alpine village looks like something out of a fairy tale! The hike takes about 2 hours, and you will be walking on well-prepared paths. Once you arrive at the top, you can stop at one of the huts and enjoy a bite to eat.’
