The wine winter in the chalet village of Valsegg

If you think that in winter wine only tastes good from hot cups and with a tonne of sugar and spices, we have to disappoint you. At Valsegg, we like to do wine tasting the good, classic way during the cold season. We think so: The coolness and crystal-clear air after a fresh snowfall sharpens the senses and makes them particularly receptive to the complex flavours of a wine.

Why you should taste wines in winter

It's not just the environmental conditions that make us real winter wine tasting fans. The short days and early nights bring with them a certain cosiness. A muse for tranquillity and beauty, if you will. And where better to enjoy a wine than in peace and good company? Speaking of good company: our sommelier Max is just such company. Born in the fashion metropolis of Milan and raised on idyllic Lake Garda, he discovered his love of wine early on in life. As a young lad of just 15, Max worked in a winery and helped with the grape harvest. Less than 9 years later, Max was already a sommelier. After a few years in Germany, he finally landed here in South Tyrol. What a stroke of luck! For us and for you.

Winter wine tasting in the South Tyrolean mountains

The wine portfolio of the Eggile restaurant, which is part of our chalet village of Valsegg, includes 115 excellent wines. An incredible 95 per cent of them come from South Tyrol. Max places a special focus on the Isarco Valley. As a very traditional and at the same time northernmost wine-growing region in Italy, this region has incredibly exciting things to offer. The winegrowing families surprise with a great sense of innovation and zeitgeist, without neglecting virtues such as craftsmanship and elegance. Have we already made your mouth water? Then rejoice! Winter 2023 awaits you:
