Happiness on four paws

Life may not always be a pony farm. But sometimes we here at Valsegg are quite envious of our farm animals. Because here they are allowed to do whatever they want all day long. Completely in harmony with their nature. Some might say we are old-fashioned. But we like it natural. Completely in the sense of our four-legged charges. We think you can feel - and taste - that. Because whenever we serve you an animal product in our Eggile restaurant, you can enjoy it with a clear conscience. There is nothing we like better than to tell you more about our charges and their life here at Valsegg.

A cow makes moo...

And many cows make? Exactly! Especially if you keep suckler cows. This form of cattle husbandry is sometimes a bit tedious, but it is entirely in keeping with the sensitive ruminants. Our "Fleckvieh" provides us with fresh milk and is allowed to feed on fresh alpine meadow grass all summer long. In winter, fragrant hay and fine maize go into the feed trough. Our Hereford cattle are our pride and joy: their tender, juicy meat is refined in the Eggile kitchen into real delicacies. What is very special: this meat is zero-kilometre meat, from rearing to slaughter.

From pork and happy chickens

South Tyrol without bacon? Unimaginable, isn't it? For us, it is a matter of honour to continue this culinary tradition. It also goes without saying that we keep our own pigs for this purpose. They are allowed to feel "super comfortable" all their lives, digging in the soil, cuddling in the straw and eating all the delicious vegetables and greens left over from our kitchen. Our hens are also out in the fresh air most of the day. We are sure that this is why our eggs taste so delicious.

So fluffy!

The favourites of our guests? Definitely: Wuschel and Hasi. The fluffy pair of rabbits loves to munch on carrots and celery. If you like, we can show your children the right way to treat these long ears with respect. Actually, rabbits are anything but cuddly animals and require a lot of care. Our Hungarian Zackel sheep are much more frugal, but no less pretty. With their beautiful, spiral horns and curly coat, they are one of the oldest livestock breeds known to mankind, probably having been around for over 5,000 years. There are only a few thousand animals left worldwide and we are very proud to contribute to the preservation of this ancient breed of sheep. This year, donkey lady Heidi gave us a special treat and presented us with an adorable foal. We are completely in love with little Marie. With her beady eyes, long ears and bright "I-A" she enchants everyone.

Like a fish in water
There are things you should have done once in your life. We think one of them is fishing for a fish yourself. Together with Gregor, we say "Petri Heil" at our pond! With a bit of luck, a trout or a char will bite. They romp around in the crystal-clear water from our own spring. If you like, we can share our favourite fish recipes with you or prepare your own fish in our kitchen.
