New year, new luck. New brooms sweep well. The beginning is half the battle. Shuffle the cards. Are these hackneyed phrases or true words? We think so: We don't have to reinvent the wheel in January, but a fresh start is sometimes a good thing.
We recently witnessed a remarkable discussion at the bar of our gourmet restaurant „Eggile“. The new year was barely a few days old and this was the occasion for a witty, verbal exchange between two of our guests: while guest 1 could hardly wait to awaken his new self in the new year and was bubbling over with a thirst for action, guest 2 saw things a little differently. He was of the opinion that the whole New Year fuss was unnecessary and that the good intentions were just empty talk anyway. His main argument: "New Year is a day like any other, January is just another month and all the New Year's resolutions will be water under the bridge by February at the latest". We silently thought to ourselves that this may well be true in many cases. Rationally speaking, the words were true. But down in the pit of our stomachs, a small spark of resistance suddenly sprouted, a mini burst of courage, so to speak. Just at that moment, Guest 1 replied: "What if it goes well? What if it works?"
